First let me tell you my short story of how I stumbled on this.
I was on a trip in St. Pete in Florida. I had been getting sick for a few days but just thought it would pass. Never thought twice about going to the doctor. 99% of the time my body heals itself and I don't need a doctor, especially the antibiotics. Just the way I was raised. It's never good to take a lot of medicines as they aren't good for you in many different ways. In some cases, like mine a sinus infection would have eventually healed but it would take a long time and could have gotten worse. I've never had a sinus infection in my entire life. Never had any symptoms like this in my life! So I finally saw a doctor, she wrote me a RX for an antibiotic and told me to get some Robitussin for the cough.
I was waiting for my prescription to be filled when I was looking at the Robitussin, which I also don't remember ever taking before. I read the ingredient label as I often do and found a few things that alarmed me right away.
Some of you have probably heard synthetic dyes are not good for us. That's because they are produced from petroleum or coal tar sources like the Red No. 33 in this cough medicine. (FDA approved for pharmaceuticals and cosmetics) What's even worse is the Red No. 40, which is a petrochemical, highly processed, petroleum based chemical used to color foods to make them more visually appetizing. This Red No. 40 is banned in Europe due to concerns over health effects. A British study found increased hyperactivity and decreased IQ. Red 40 can also be found in red, orange, yellow, brown, “goldern” colored foods. Found in most processed foods, candies, gum, juice/soda, cereal, yogurt and many other kids snacks not to mention many medications!
High Fructose Corn Syrup has replaced table sugar since the 80's because it's much cheaper. This is one of the worst. There are studies that have found high fructose corn syrup has significant risk of weight gain and obesity, increased risk of Diabetes, hypertension and bad cholesterol levels, liver damage, mercury exposure and more.
Propylene Glycol is a largely used chemical that food companies don’t want you to see on their labels. They are also made of partially hydrogenated oils, liquid sugars and artificial colors. You can also use Propylene Glycol to WINTERIZE your RV. It prevents the pipes from freezing in the winter. Also used to clean out your colon before a colonoscopy. Multiple uses for this ingredient that you get in your blueberry muffin.
Polyethylene Glycol is classified as expected to be toxic and harmful with evidence of organ system toxicity.
See a close up on the ingredient list at the bottom.
These are not even close to the worst ingredients approved by the FDA, the part that makes me mad is that the doctors recommend this. We are supposed to trust them. If you search you can find natural remedies for EVERYTHING. At least remember to check your ingredients on your winter time med if you do catch that bug!
